Attendance Bundle: Tracking, Improving, Monitoring

4 Resources
In this bundle you will find different resources to help you monitor and improve attendance. This is a comprehensive attendance bundle which contains many of the resources any Head of Year would need to track and improve attendance. A tracking and intervention spreadsheet - this conditionally formatted spreadsheet allows you to track your year group attendance weekly and allows you to track your interventions also. Attendance interview template - this is a template for used in a school attendance panel or similar meeting and is helpful to identify any concerns as well as formalise the process of monitoring attendance 6 week monitoring card - this is a card which can be printed and handed to students, or stuck into homework diaries etc, this is designed to be completed weekly with attendance and can be used to monitor the 6 week improvement period of students below thresholds of your choice (90/95 etc). Attendance improvement plan - this an example improvement plan for heads of year to use when trying to target attendance. It provides strategies and priorities for focus - much like a year group improvement plan, but just so attendance. Please follow me: facebook.com/teachcoach

The document references lots of great leadership research for NQPML and took a great deal of time to pull together. This particular pro forma is broken down into the ‘competencies’ assessed and the three parts of the project - planning, evaluation and leading the priority. 15 Big Pastoral Questions and their Answers Series - 5 Big Questions Series - Interview Prep Guidance - Head of Year - Head of House

3 Resources
In these three PDFs, I answer 15 big pastoral questions. These are intended to support existing or new heads of year as well as being potential questions you may get asked on interview. This set includes questions like: how do you create year group cohesion? why are assemblies important? what is included in a successful form time? why is monitoring attendance important? how do you improve the resilience of your year group? what should you do with your failing FT? why are form tutors important? how do you deal with an angry parent? how do you lead a team? The answers to these questions are suggestions only – they are not necessarily definitive. If preparing for interview, I always recommend you tailor your questions to the school you’re applying to and ensure you are giving specific examples of what you’re able to offer. If in post, always remember the policies of your school.

These are different styles of letter but are both made using my experience of head of year interviews. They are great for reading in preparation for writing your own letter.
